SpaceX confirms successful deployment of 58 Starlink satellites

SpaceX confirms the successful deployment of 58 Starlink satellites on Saturday.

“Falcon 9 launches 58 Starlink satellites and 3 @planetlabs Skysats to orbit before returning to Earth and landing on a drone ship”, says the tweet.

Satellites designed to beam high-speed internet down to Earth were scheduled to be blasted into orbit on Saturday as part of the first “ride-sharing” mission by SpaceX.

The launch is part of plans by Elon Musk’s company to deploy a “constellation” of mass-produced routers circling our planet to provide blanket broadband access and which is without a crew.

It is for the first time that three separate high-resolution camera satellites belonging to imaging firm Planet Labs, designed to monitor Earth’s geography and environment, have hitched a ride.
