Earlier this week Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a final warning to China based video-sharing app TikTok for obscene content that was against internet guidelines of Pakistan government. In response, the short-video sharing app has issued a statement showing PTA of its mechanism and efforts to ensure quality and security standards on the app.
“Based on our H2 2019 data (July 1 – December 31, 2019) from our Transparency Report, our moderation system proactively caught and removed 98.2% of videos before a user reported them; of the total videos removed, 89.4% were taken down before these videos received any views,” said TikTok spokesperson in the official statement.
The spokesperson also informed that “the company deployed a combination of technologies and moderation strategies to detect and review problematic content that violates our terms of use and comprehensive Community Guidelines and implement appropriate penalties including removing videos and banning accounts” reported by a leading daily.
As a result of the mentioned measures, TikTok said it removed “3,728,162 user videos that were found in violation of regulations from Pakistan from July 1 to December 31, 2019”.
Ensuring better security protocols and giving consumers the right to maintain content on the app is something TikTok is working on. “A safe and positive in-app environment” is the app’s utmost priority, TikTok stated.
