Trump to Ban TikTok from the United States

President Donald Trump has announced that he is banning the Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok in the United States.

“As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” Mr.  Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday.

The US officials have expressed security concerns over TikTok since it was purchased by the Chinese company ByteDance in 2017.

the US military in December 2019, announced that service members would no longer be allowed to use the app on their government-issued devices.

Meanwhile, TikTok has denied all such accusations that it is controlled by or shares data with the Chinese government.

It was not exactly made clear that how would the POTUS ban TikTok, as the app is available to download for free on the iOS App Store and the Google Play store.

If the said is done, the ban would be a major blow for ByteDance. The video-sharing app has up to 80 million active monthly users in America and is among the fasted growing ones.

TikTok’s US General Manager Vanessa Pappas appeared in a one-minute video released Saturday morning addressing the “TikTok community” in response to President Trump’s announcement.

“We’ve heard your outpouring of support and we want to say thank you, we’re not planning on going anywhere,” Pappas said.

“TikTok is a home for creators and artists to express themselves, their ideas, and connect with others across different backgrounds and we are so proud of all the various communities that call TikTok their home.”

Pappas thanked the 1,500 US employees who work on this app every day and mentioned that the platform’s plans for an additional 10,000 jobs TikTok will be bringing into the US over the next three years.

Meanwhile, the social-media platform’s expansive community reacted by posting memes in response to Donald Trump’s statement.
