WhatsApp to soon allow more users in group video, audio calls

Amidst the closure of educational institutions, offices and businesses in the wake of lockdown to contain coronavirus and ensure social distancing, WhatsApp now seems to be planning on yet another feature to make the app more useful during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports, the messaging app is yet to reveal how many users will finally be able to join the group call when the new calling feature is rolled out globally.

The latest WhatsApp Beta update revealed the company is planning to extend the limit of participants in a voice or video group call.

“WhatsApp, probably due to the concerns for the COVID-19 and the fact that more users are using group calls, has decided to extend that limit to allow calls with more participants,” said the report.

The changes were spotted in WhatsApp Messenger beta for iOS 2.20.50.23.

WhatsApp currently allows only four participants in group audio and video calls. Apps like Skype and Zoom allow a much larger number of participants.

However, there is no word on WhatsApp’s new group calling limit yet.
