WhatsApp trolled for launching its own Status to ease privacy concerns

WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned messaging service after adding Biometric Authentication to its Web and Desktop Versions has rolled out its own Status feature.

The status feature comes out in a bid to address users’ concerns about its impending privacy shift.

for the first time ever, Whatsapp’s own Status feature will be directly engaging its users but giving no indication it will reverse course on the move that has incensed them.

“We’ll let you know about new features and updates here,” WhatsApp said on its first-ever Status posts. further adding that “one thing that isn’t new is our commitment to your privacy.”

It also reiterated that it “can’t read or listen to your personal conversations as they’re end-to-end encrypted”. Status messages disappear after 24 hours, a feature made popular by Snapchat.

Ever since WhatsApp introduced its new terms, users around the globe started switching to its rival messaging platforms including Signal and Telegram.

Earlier in the day, WhatsApp rolled out a new feature that allows the user to log into the account through a face ID or fingerprint authentication system.

“Today we’re starting to roll out a new security feature for WhatsApp Web and Desktop: face and fingerprint unlock when linking devices,” WhatsApp also shared the update in a tweet.

However, the recent new Status feature has met with the trolls on social media:
