Video sharing platform YouTube is making quite a few policy changes in terms of its verification badges and content originality. While many have recently lost their badges (checkmarks) after the policy change, it will be till October that the new rules would be in complete effect.
“Now, the video-sharing website is emphasizing verifying prominent channels that have a clear need for proof of authenticity,” wrote tech magazine The Verge.
It basically means that in order for a channel to have a verification badge, it needs to be owned/operated by the individual or the company it represents. Earlier, anyone with a subscriber base of 100,000 or more could get a YouTube badge, but that would not be the case anymore.
“It should be easy to know when you’ve found the official YouTube channel of a creator, artist, brand, or public figure,” said YouTube in a statement released on the matter.
As a result of the new policy many individuals lost their official tick Mark’s earlier this week, these people took it to Twitter and Facebook to complain to YouTube.
The good news is that these channels still have a chance to appeal to YouTube and after due diligence final decision would be made, informed the video-sharing site.
The newly formed rule regarding verification badges in amongst the many policies changes YouTube is implementing in the near future. Earlier the site also announced major changes on kid’s channels which will deprive the owners of ad revenue and certain features on the platform.
