Rowan Atkinson, “Mr. Bean”, defends Boris Johnson comments on Muslim Women wearing Burka

Britain’s former secretary Boris Jonson’s comments on Muslim Women wearing Burka has sparked a debate whether religion should be allowed to be mocked or not. His comments faced back-lash on various platforms including social media. To which Pakistani actress Armeena Khan also responded few days back.
World famous British actor-comedian Rowan Atkinson better known as Mr.Bean, has come forward in support of Boris Jonson. In a letter, written to international newspaper, he termed Boris Johnson’s remarks were funny.
Atkinson wrote, “As a lifelong beneficiary of the freedom to make jokes about religion, I do think that Boris Johnson’s joke about wearers of the burka resembling letterboxes is a pretty good one.”
He also added that, “All jokes on religion cause offense, so it’s pointless apologizing for them, continuing, You should really only apologies for a bad joke. On that basis, no apology is required.”
The former London mayor and British foreign secretary Boris Johnson few days ago said that Muslim women wearing Burka and face coverings “look like letter boxes”, and compared them to bank robbers and rebellious teenagers.
