Rumman Raees goes under the knife

As per media reports, fast bowler Rumman Raees underwent knee surgery at a local hospital in Karachi. Rumman Raees has been struggling with knee problems. He had suffered the injury playing for Islamabad United in PSL 3. Initial reports suggested that the injury was not as bad as initially suspected. However, it’s been 6 months and he has not recovered. This raises questions at the initial assessment by the medical staff.

Moreover, Asad Shafiq also underwent hand surgery. The right handed middle order batsman’s injury is unlikely to keep him out for international cricket as Shafiq is only part of the Test match team. He will not be part of the Asia Cup team, therefore he has ample amount of time to recover from the injury.

However, the injury and subsequent rehabilitation process of Rumman Raees raises questions. If surgery was required why wasn’t it conducted earlier? PCB’s media department is yet to comment on media reports. Rumman Raees’s return to international cricket remains uncertain. With less than a year remaining in the World Cup, team management would be desperate to have a fit Rumman back in the side.
