Paresh Rawal faces police case over insensitive remarks for Bengalis

Bollywood actor turned politician Paresh Rawal faces police case over insensitive remarks for Bengalis!

A police complaint was lodged against actor Paresh Rawal by CPI(M) leader Md Salim last week over a comment made against the Bengali community during a poll rally in Gujarat.

Paresh Rawal landed in a massive controversy for his comments on Bengalis while campaigning in Gujarat for the ruling BJP.

However, Rawal had apologised for his comments but the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal has hit out at Rawal for his offensive comments, former Member of Parliament and CPI(M) leader Md Salim has filed a complaint with the police.

In his complaint, lodged at Taratola Police station, Salim alleged he came across a video, featuring the actor giving a speech, which could promote feelings of hatred against Bengalis.

Salim added that Bengalis, who are living in other parts of India, might also get affected by the Rawal’s comments.

What did Paresh Rawal said?

At a rally, Paresh Rawal had said the people of Gujarat would tolerate inflation but not “Bangladeshis and Rohingya” next door and used a “cooking fish” stereotype that has incensed Bengalis.

“Gas cylinders are expensive but they will come down. People will get employment too. But what will happen if Rohingya migrants and Bangladeshis start living around you, like in Delhi? What will you do with gas cylinders? Cook fish for the Bengalis?” Rawal had said.

His comments drew a huge backlash from the Bengali community and some others on social media. While many saw it as “hate speech” attacking Bengalis.
