Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shares her thoughts on #MeToo in India

Lately, #MeToo has been going extremely strong in B-town. Every now and then we get to know about a new #MeToo case from Bollywood stars. This has helped so many people open up about their personal experiences. #MeToo movement in India has been gaining a lot of momentum and it has greatly helped people who were afraid to say anything about it, are now coming forward and are not afraid to tell the truth. We have heard about a number of alleged cases, have seen so many accusations and counter-claims made by people from Bollywood. This is something that wasn’t too common even a couple years ago. But now, people are gaining enough confident to come forward and share their experiences and thoughts about sexual harassment.

It all began to get stronger with Tanushree Dutta’s allegations against Nana Patekar. And after that, allegations have been made against many people from the industry including Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor, Vikas Bahl and comedy group AIB. Many have appreciated the people who are speaking up against sexual harassments including Anurag Kashyap, Kangna Ranaut, Swara Bhasker, Sonam Kapoor and many others.

Aishwarya Rai recently was at an event of L’Oreal where she shared her thoughts about it. She said, “The #MeToo movement has gained momentum in present times. The world has got smaller with social media, one voice is becoming larger. What is nice to see in present time is that the members of the media are becoming allied and propelling voices that needs to be heard and giving them the platform. The law of the land will take over for justice to be served.”

She added,”It wouldn’t be right to specifically comment on individual cases as matters would be sub judice and that would not be responsible on our part but having said that, God bless and strength to the voices that need that kind of support and you all need to be there.”

However, she refused to be vocal about the singular cases like that of Alok Nath or vikas Bahl. Instead, she said,

“The #MeToo movement has been the need of the hour since time immemorial and I hope together we keep the momentum going. At the same time, if a case gets sub judice, we have to respect the law of the land.”
