Legendary Chanel fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85 after weeks of ill health, in Paris on 19th of February, French media reports.
According to the French fashion website Pure People, Chanel’s creative director died on Tuesday morning at the American Hospital in Paris after being admitted the day before.
The German-born designer, was also the creative director of Chanel, one of fashion’s most iconic and influential figures of all times.
He was famed for his omnipresent dark sunglasses, white ponytail, and black leather gloves, the enigmatic Lagerfeld was arguably the most prolific designer of the modern age.
The famous fashion icon was workaholic and was busy right up until the end. He missed two of Chanel’s haute couture shows in Paris on January 22, the fashion company cited the reason that at the time he was feeling tired.
Born in Hamburg in 1933, Lagerfeld was inspired to go into fashion when he accompanied his mother to a Dior fashion show as a child.
In a seven-decade career, Lagerfeld created collections simultaneously for the celebrated houses of Chanel and Fendi, in addition to his signature label. He had been Creative Director of Chanel since 1983.
