Transgender model and activist, Kami Sid is all set to represent Pakistan at the red carpet event in Los Angeles on October 24th. Her short film Rani has been chosen to be screened as a finalist at the world-renowned NBCUniversal Short Film Festival.
The film tells the story of a Pakistani transgender woman who sets out to take care of an abandoned baby. Shot on the streets of Karachi, Pakistan the film has been produced by GrayScale and Rizvilia Productions.
While Kami is happy for this achievement and proud to represent Pakistan, she has very little hopes tied to the Naya Pakistan, In an interview with a local publication, she said, “Governments come and governments go.”
Despite that, Kami continued, “I believe Naya Pakistan will take a positive step for the betterment of the minorities as well as the transgender community.”
She also added that she’s highly impressed by India’s new laws to promote peace and equality. She praised the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to legalise homosexuality.
“I hope they take inspiration from India where so much positive change has been brought.”
