Hollywood icon Kirk Douglas has been laid to rest after a private funeral attended by his closest friends and family.

Kirk Douglas, Hollywood’s legendary actor passed away at the age of 103 two days ago and is survived by his wife of 65 years Anne Buydens, and his three sons Michael, Joel, and Eric.

On Friday, the private funeral was held at Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary in Los Angeles, attended by Michael Douglas, his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and friend Steven Spielberg, and a few Hollywood royalties.

The funeral ceremony was conducted by Kirk’s longtime rabbi, David Wolpe.

Rabbi David Wolpe used to study Jewish religious texts with Kirk on a weekly basis for some 25 years.
In his final days he was at home, surrounded by his family, in a house full of flowers, holding hands with his bride of over 60 years,’ Wolpe writes in a New York Times essay.

‘I had the privilege of reciting the Hebrew vidui, the final confessional, at his bedside.’

Michael, 75, announced his father’s death by posting a series of pictures, including a family portrait with all Kirk’s sons, along with a heart touching note. He called his father ‘a legend’, ‘a humanitarian’ and ‘a wonderful husband’,  a wonderful father-in-law, and a wonderful grandfather.
