Pakistani star Mahira Khan has urged for the need for mental health awareness after a student of Beaconhouse National University (BNU) in Lahore committed suicide. She has penned down an emotional post on social media.
Rushaan Farrukh, who is reported to be in her early 20s, lost her life when she jumped off from a multi-storey building on-campus on November 26th in Lahore.
On Tuesday, famed Pakistani actress Mahira Khan took to Twitter, expressing her thoughts on the unfortunate occurrence that has left numerous in shock.
The 33-year-old actress wrote, “When will we start taking mental health seriously? When will we stop calling people mad or ridicule them for how they feel? We need counselors in schools. Not just for students. We need to educate parents and teachers!!”.
In another tweet, while sharing Rushaan’s post in which she stressed the need to be “compassionate and empathetic”, Mahira Khan wrote, “Maybe we can start by reading and understanding what someone suffering had to say before they left. Rest In Peace.. Rushaan Farrukh.”
This incident has raised many serious questions regarding the attitudes which seem to prevail, especially among the youngsters. It’s a pity that in our society that people while tackling mental health illnesses that are seen as a taboo having a lot of stigma attached.
