Customs court in Rawalpindi issued non-bailable arrest warrant for Ayyan Ali. She has been on trial for currency smuggling case since March, 2015. Initially she was presented before a customs judge and after that was sent on a 14-day judicial remand, then was taken to a medical facility for examination.
She was bailed out of jail in July, 2015. She has not been in a court since then and the trial had been going on for further investigations as Ayyan Ali allegedly named a few models and politicians to have been involved in money laundering and currency smuggling.
Yesterday, special customs court in Rawalpindi issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Ayyan Ali and Judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta has ordered her to be arrested and presented on October 22.
However, her lawyer told the court, “Ayyan Ali is sick and should not be subjected to hearing.”
Upon which Judge Bhutta said,
“That is based on an old medical certificate. You cannot be exempted on an old medical certificate for so long. You have not submitted a new certificate ever since.”
Customs prosecutor, Amin Feroz stated that Ayyan Ali has not turned up in the court since December 8, 2015 and such excuses are wasting the court’s time.
Prior to the issuance of this non-bailable arrest warrant, two bailable arrest warrants were issued against Ayyan Ali. The court, however has postponed the hearing till October 22, 2015.
