Sania Mirza’s family issues statement addressing her divorce

Before this, Sania Mirza never addressed rumours of her divorce.

Sania Mirza’s family has issued a statement addressing her divorce for the first time.

Day after Shoaib Malik announced his wedding to actress Sana Javed, the statement said that the former couple has been divorced “for a few months now.”

Until now, Mirza and Malik have not publically accepted their divorce even after speculated separation claims by news outlets.

Indian tennis star and Pakistani former cricketer were married in April 2010 with wedding ceremonies held in both Pakistan and India.

The couple welcomed their first child in 2018.

“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead!” reads the statement.

“At this sensitive period of her life, we would also like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy.”

The statement was posted on the Instagram handle of Sania’s father Imran Mirza.
