Met Gala 2024 raised about $26 million for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Met Gala 2024 showcased flowers everywhere, in line with this year’s theme ‘The Garden of Time’ inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name held on Monday, May 6.

This year’s event was attended by some of the biggest icons in the global fashion industry.

As reported, around 400 guests in attendance this year included billionaires like Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon; Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, Schwartzman, and several other international celebrities including actors and singers as well.

The Met Gala is one of the most iconic events in the fashion world, hosted annually by the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

It’s a fundraising gala for the museum’s Costume Institute and marks the opening of its annual fashion exhibit.

The fund-raiser started in 1948 to raise money for the Costume Institute, and since 1999, Anna Wintour, the global editorial director of Condé Nast and the editor of Vogue, has been behind transforming the gala into an immensely profitable commingling of celebrities, sponsors and brands.

Ticket prices for the gala have increased significantly over time.

This year an individual ticket reportedly sold for $75,000 compared to $50,000 last year and $35,000 in 2022.

However, celebrities do not usually buy their tickets. The famous brands purchase tables starting at $350,000 and compete to dress the buzziest names.

This year’s MET gala raised about US$26 million for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, according to a spokesperson.

That is a US$4 million increase over last year’s total, and more than double what the event raised a decade ago, in 2014.
