The culturally renowned and hailed Peshawari Chappal – an essential in every Pakistani man’s wardrobe – has now emerged as the international icon of style. French designer Christian Louboutin, took inspiration from the Pakistani footwear, and launched his collection ‘Imran Sandal’ last month.
Named after Louboutin’s friend Imran Qureshi – who is a renowned Pakistani artist – the sandal is homage to Imran’s art work. Imran Qureshi himself took to Instagram and thanked his friend for naming the ‘beautiful work’ on his name.
While the regular Peshawari Chappal is often found in basic color of black and brown, the designer sandal is a flamboyant contrast of white, silver and bright orange – quite a modernized take on the original piece.
Known for his high-end stiletto shoes worldwide, it is expected that Louboutin’s designed ‘Peshawari’ will be tagged at or above $500 dollar. Well, we are quite intrigued to see how the sandals – locally available for mere $5.50 – will be perceived worldwide.
