Mark Margolis, ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ Star, Dies Aged 83

Mark Margolis, ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ star passed away on Thursday, Aug 3, in New York City. He was 83.

His son, Morgan Margolis, announced the news of his demise.

Margolis died Thursday (3 August) at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City following a short illness, his son announced on Friday.

Margolis’ manager Robert Kolker in a statement said, “He was one of a kind. We won’t see his likes again. He was a treasured client and a lifelong friend. I was lucky to know him.”

Margolis first appeared as Hector “Tio” Salamanca on the second episode of the second season of the hit AMC drama Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad in March 2009.

His portrayal of the menacing, bell-ringing Hector Salamanca bagged him a nomination for an Emmy for his performance in 2012.

Margolis left an unforgettable mark on the Vince Gilligan television universe with barely any dialogue, as the former drug kingpin who continues to hover over the Albuquerque meth trade from his nursing home.

He will also be remembered for his turn as the Bolivian henchman Alberto the Shadow in Brian De Palma’s Scarface (1984).

His other notable credits include a recurring role in CBS crime drama The Equalizer and Ace’s landlord Mr. Shickadance in Jim Carrey’s 1994 comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Millions of fans mourn the passing of the immensely talented Mark Margolis.
