Here is when Taika Waititi joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the money!

The director Taika Waititi had ‘no interest’ in working with Marvel going into ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’, the details emerged on Monday as the Oscar-winning director sat for an interview with IndieWire.

“It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur,” Waititi said of directing “Thor: Ragnarok” and later “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

Waititi said, “I had no interest in doing one of those films. It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor, and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what? This would be a great opportunity to feed these children.’”

He added, “And ‘Thor,’ let’s face it—it was probably the least popular franchise. I never read ‘Thor’ comics as a kid. That was the comic I’d pick up and be like, ‘Ugh.’ And then I did some research on it, and I read one ‘Thor’ comic or 18 pages, or however long they are.”

Waititi said, “I needed a break from that (the Thor films).” Waititi added, “It’s a very draining process working on these films for two and a half years and nonstop.”

Waititi added that he took Marvel reaching out to him as a sign the franchise didn’t know where to go next.

“I think there was no place left for them to go with that,” Waititi said of the third “Thor” movie. “I thought, ‘Well, they’ve called me in, this is really the bottom of the barrel.”

Taika Waititi became one of the first indigenous New Zealanders to win an Oscar in 2020.

The 48-year-old Māori filmmaker took home the award for best-adapted screenplay at the 92nd Academy Awards for his Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit.”

‘Thor 5’ does not have a confirmed release date yet and awaits an official announcement.
