“My tweet was a SATIRE based on the recent NAB judgment”, says Salman Ahmad after facing backlash on social media

It all started after the SC judgment against Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryiam Nawaz, former Junoon singer Salman Ahmad took to social media and tweeted a satire photo which was trolled all over the social media labeling him a misogynist. Though he has removed his tweet but the screens shots are still circulating.

While talking to OY, he provided his point of view behind that controversial tweet. “All through my career, I have shown the greatest and deepest respect for all women but no I don’t have respect for convicts, liars, frauds & SM hate mongers (men & women)”, said Salman Ahmad.

Adding further to it he told, “My tweet was SATIRE based on the recent NAB judgment. Artists have always used Satire to comment on current events & political personalities”.

Sharing a few bitter experiences of past Salman Ahmad added,” My song Ehtesaab was also a satirical video on the lack of accountability in Pakistan. Junoon was banned for three years by Nawaz Sharif back in the 90’s. I’m a serious artist who has contributed to the Pakistani arts & culture, & have always given voice to the voiceless”.

His tweet, though he clarifies it as a satire, was not welcomed at all and faced  back lash over social media from Pakistani public, including people who belong to main stream news media.
