Aasia Bibi released from Multan jail

Aasia Bibi, who was recently acquitted of blasphemy charges by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, is reported to have been released from the Multan jail, reports local media.

According to the news source, Multan Jail received orders of release her release on Wednesday. After the release she was transferred to an undisclosed location via aerial transportation. Though, details are not being made public yet.

Few international news mediums are reporting that Aasia Bibi after being released is en route to the Netherlands from Nur Khan airbase, Rawalpindi. Her lawyer Saif-ul-Malook while talking to an international reporter has confirmed Aasia BiBi’s release but he is unaware of her destination. He said, “I have been told that she is on a plane but, nobody knows where the plane will land”.

Aasia Bibi, 51 years old Christian, mother of five, had been on death row since 2010. The Supreme Court of Pakistan, acquitted Aasia Bibi in a blasphemy case on Wednesday, 31st of October, ordering her release. The judgement of the high court as well as the trial court was reversed by the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar.

Earlier, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi in a recent interview to foreign media said, Aasia Bibi and her family have been provided complete security. He further added, “Every Pakistani, no matter their religion, is the responsibility of the government and no one can be given a license to play with someone’s life or property”.

On question of putting Aasia Bibi’s name on exit control list, federal minister said, “Till someone is declared a criminal, or there is a legal basis, the question of placing an individual’s name on ECL does not arise”.

It was a few days ago, since after Aasia Bibi’s case verdict nationwide protests erupted. Resulting in three day sit-ins and nationwide shutdown. Which ended after the government signed an agreement with the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP), responsible for the three days’ protests.
