All 5 foreigners remain safe subject to a suicide attack in Karachi’s Landhi area

The attack was carried out at 6:50 am this morning.

All 5 foreigners remain safe subjected to a suicide attack in Karachi’s Landhi area on Friday.

The police’s timely action resulted in the killing of the two suicide attackers who targeted an SUV vehicle carrying foreign nationals in Karachi’s Landhi Mansehra Colony.

A total of three attackers were involved in the incident including a suicide bomber on a motorcycle, the police said.

One attacker had been killed by firing from the police while the third had managed to flee the scene, the police added.

Five Japanese nationals escaped unhurt from a suicide bomb attack on their vehicle as police shot down a gunman accompanying the bomber, a police spokesperson said, but two bystanders were among the three injured.

The foreigners were travelling to the Landhi Export Processing Zone.

According to the hospital sources, at least three were injured and were brought to the Jinnah Hospital emergency room.

Images from the scene showed what looked like body parts of the suicide bomber and the dead body of another person lying on the ground.

Windows of the van carrying foreigners was shattered. Its airbag had been deployed due to the crash.

Counter Terrorism Department Press Briefing

Counter Terrorism Department In-charge Raja Umar Khattab in a press briefing told journalists that the foreigners were travelling in three vehicles.

He added that the suicide bombers were waiting nearby and attacked the vehicle when it slowed down due to a speed breaker.

“The security guard fired at the attackers and thwarted the attack,” he said, adding that the terrorists arrived on a motorcycle and were chasing the car.

The terrorists stepped down from their motorbikes near the scene and approached the vehicle on foot before opening fire at the van, added.

Eyewitness account

A security official who survived the attack sharing the eyewitness account said that the foreigners were travelling in a three-vehicle convoy.

A security vehicle led the way, while four foreigners were in a van behind them followed by an SUV which also carried foreigners, he added.

The security official added that only the van carrying the foreigners had been targeted and security had immediately pushed back the SUV to keep it safe.

He said that there had been a loud explosion followed by intense firing from the attackers, adding that police had immediately arrived on the scene and engaged the attackers, killing one of them.
