MQM founder Altaf Hussain and colleagues slapped £1.5m fine by UK court

The British Govt has fined MQM leader Altaf Hussain for £2 million over income tax evasion (over a period of 20 yrs).

Altaf Hussain, other MQM leaders slapped £1.5m fine by UK court!

The judgment is reported to have been issued against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and founder Hussain, Mir, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Mohammed Kalimullah Syed in the case brought before the court by the His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

As reported, a court has issued a judgment against the current and former senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership for nonpayment of nearly £1.5 million to the UK government’s tax and income department, known as His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

According to the news source, the judgment in default was by Northampton County Court’s Judge Henley on an application filed by the HMRC in its long-running civil tax and income dispute with the MQM leadership.

The default judgment said it is ordered that “there be a judgment in default of a defence” against Mir, Altaf Hussain, and Mohammed Kalimullah for the total sum of £1,476,406.06.

While, the claim against Iftikhar Hussain, the second defendant, proceeds as a contested claim, said the judgment.

It added that the order has been made on the application of a party without notice, therefore, MQM defendants have the right to apply to have the order set aside, varied, or stayed.

Hussain, Mir, and others deny any wrongdoing and the judgment is not an imposition of guilt or criminality as it’s a civil case dating back several years.

His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) started the case of income tax evasion during the money-laundering investigation against the MQM leadership.

The HMRC stated that the MQM should have paid tax on the income and donations it received, but the MQM said it was a non-incorporated body and did not need to pay income tax.

According to the news source, the UK government’s HMR had determined that the MQM leaders had failed to pay nearly £2 million to the national exchequer over a period of 20 years for evading taxes over large earnings running into millions of Pounds. These earnings are based mainly on donations received from MQM supporters including from Pakistan.

On the other hand, MQM London has confirmed the news report that MQM founder Altaf Hussain has been fined over £2 million for evading income taxes for 20 years in London but termed it as a ‘minor issue’ sensationalized.
