The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized the ‘largest-ever’ methamphetamine shipment from Karachi port, it emerged on Thursday.
The Anti-Narcotics Force in a statement issued on Thursday notified that it has seized 224 kilograms of methamphetamine from Karachi port, describing it as the “largest ever” shipment of crystal ice in the country.
According to the ANF spokesperson, the drugs were discovered concealed within a consignment of soapstone, destined for Belgium via Afghanistan.
The drugs were initially smuggled from Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing into Karachi, ANF spokesperson said.
The smugglers then attempted to conceal the methamphetamine within the roof and doors of five shipping containers, the statement added.
The ANF seized all five containers at the Karachi port.
Three individuals involved in the smuggling attempt, including two Afghan nationals, were arrested while attempting to flee to their home country through the Torkham border.
The ANF in the statement also reprised its commitment to combat drug trafficking and protecting the world from the harmful effects of narcotics.
