Pakistan reports 1,579 new COVID-19 cases and 52 deaths in last 24 hours

Pakistan has reported 1,579 new COVID-19 cases and 52 deaths in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, the nationwide tally of coronavirus fatalities has jumped to 13,128 while the total number of positive COVID-19 cases has surged to 587,014.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the total count of active cases in Pakistan is 17,117.

According to NCOC, a total of 37,998 tests were conducted across the country during the past 24 hours. 

While Overall 556,769 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far while 9,135,393 samples have been tested thus far.

Furthermore, Punjab reported 860 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours,

The cases mar Punjab’s highest daily total since Jan 2 when the province confirmed 847 infections.

While Punjab’s coronavirus cases tally has surged to 175,051.

Keeping in view the surging positive COVID-19 cases, the Pakistan Medical Association, a representative body of health professionals, has urged the government to immediately impose coronavirus restrictions to avoid chances of a third wave. 

“The incubation period of the virus is around seven days, so cases started increasing one week after lifting the restrictions and we fear that cases may further increase in coming days if the masses don’t strictly adhere to the SOPs,” an official of the Ministry of National Health Services said.
