Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary Omar Hamid Khan stepped down from his post on Sunday citing health reasons.
However, news sources claim that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan has not yet accepted Omar Hamid Khan’s resignation as the electoral body’s secretary.
The CEC has advised Khan to prioritise rest and undergo the best available treatment for a full recovery. ECP Secretary has yet to formally submit a written resignation, according to the news source.
The news of Omar Hamid Khan’s resignation has prompted speculation about the potential impact on election-related tasks, especially with the general elections scheduled for Feb 8, 2024.
