Emergency declared in Chaman as Afghan forces continue offensive on the border area with Pakistan

At least one person was killed and 15 other civilians were injured as the tensions at the international crossing remained high.

Emergency has been declared in Chaman as Afghan forces continue the offensive on the border area on Thursday.

As reported, at least one person was killed and 15 others injured including children and women as Afghan forces once again targeted civilian settlements along the bordering area with Pakistan.

Pak-Afghan border security forces on both sides engaged in clashes in Chaman’s Sheikh Lal Muhammad, according to the authorities.

According to local administration, the border area is being evacuated after clashes after an emergency has been declared in DHQ Chaman.

In a brief initial statement, The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that “indiscriminate and intermittent” firing was continuing from inside Afghanistan on the civilian population of Chaman.

As per the authorities, the clash started over the intervention of Afghan forces in repairing a barrack along the border by Pakistani authorities in the Sheikh Lal Muhammad sector.

Levies officials said that several artillery shells were fired in the Boghra and Custom House area.

A befitting response was given by the Pakistani forces by using heavy artillery in retaliation.

According to officials, after the tense situation in Chaman, an emergency has been imposed in the hospitals of Quetta as well.

Emergency has been imposed in Civil Hospital, BMC Hospital and Trauma Center of Quetta on the direction of Chief Minister Balochistan.

According to the health secretary, all medical staff, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff have been summoned to the hospitals, while doctors, medical staff and medicines have also been dispatched to Chaman.

Medical Superintendent in District Chaman has issued a notification declaring an emergency recalling all medical and para-medical staff on duty.

This is the second time in five days that the Afghan border forces opened unprovoked and indiscriminate fire in Chaman’s border area using heavy artillery.

The tensions at the international crossing remained high.
