Gilgit-Baltistan CM Khalid Khurshid has been disqualified in a fake degree case!
Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chief Court on Tuesday disqualified Chief Minister Khalid Khursheed for holding a fake degree under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The order was passed by a three-member bench comprising Judge Malik Anayatur Rehman, Judge Johar Ali, and Judge Mohammad Mushtaq on a petition seeking the CM’s disqualification.
The CM’s lawyer, Asadullah Khan, argued before the court that the articles do not apply to GB, but the complainant’s counsel informed the court that they applied to the region — based on which the court issued its judgment.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) in May withdrew the equivalence letter for the LLB degree issued to the chief minister after learning that it was “fake”.
As reported, the commission has also blocked Khursheed’s name and CNIC on its web portal.
Ghulam Shahzad Agha, a member of the GB Assembly of PPP, had challenged Khurshid’s law degree and sought his disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
The petitioner through his counsel Amjad Hussain contended that the degree submitted by Khurshid had not been verified by the University of London and the Higher Education Commission had declared it to be fake.
