Huw Edward has been named by his wife as a BBC presenter in an explicit photo scandal!
The development comes as the BBC presenter scandal has now been front-page news and the lead story on radio and television news bulletins for six successive days.
Edwards, 61, is one of the most recognizable faces on UK television and he was the man entrusted with telling the world that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away.
He has led coverage of the biggest events in Britain since the turn of the century, including elections, royal weddings, and the 2012 Olympics as well.
Though BBC had suspended the presenter for involvement in the scandal but did not name him publically. Leading several of its star presenters to take to social media to say they were not involved after speculation swirled online.
In the latest development, in a statement released by the broadcaster, Vicky Flind said her husband was “suffering from serious mental health issues”.
“As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years,” she said.
His wife, who is also a newsreader, said, “The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he’ll stay for the foreseeable future.”
Allegations mushroomed last week against a star BBC presenter accused of paying a teenager for sexually explicit pictures, as three more people came forward with complaints.
The report published on Friday by The Sun revealed that the alleged victim’s family said the presenter had paid a total of £35,000 ($45,000) for the sexually explicit pictures.
