Iran has sentenced around 400 people to prison over protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s death!

Courts in Tehran have sentenced 400 people to jail terms of up to 10 years over their involvement in protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s death, the city’s prosecutor-general said on Tuesday.

Furthermore, 70 people have also been fined over their involvement in the protests, the judicial official said

“In hearings on cases of rioters in Tehran, 160 people were sentenced to between five and 10 years in prison, 80 people to two to five years and 160 people of up to two years,” Ali Alghasi-Mehr said in statements cited by state news agency IRNA.

Earlier this week, Iranian authorities executed two men for involvement in the months-long protests. While Nine more people are reported to be sitting on death row.

The judiciary on Monday morning announced that Majidreza Rahnavard, 23, had been executed in public in the northeastern city of Mashhad.

A Revolutionary Court convicted him less than two weeks ago of the charge of “enmity against God” after finding he had stabbed to death two members of the paramilitary Basij Resistance Force.

On 16 September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini, also known as Jina Amini, died in a hospital in Tehran, Iran.

Mahsa Amini is reported to have been detained by morality police in Tehran on 13 September for allegedly wearing her hijab, or headscarf, “improperly”.

The nationwide protests have been triggered amid Mahsa Amini’s death.
