The main Kaghan-Naran Road has been closed to all types of traffic following a glacier outburst!

The Kaghan-Naran road is closed to all types of traffic following the melting of a huge glacier, an official of the National Highway Authority (NHA) told on Sunday.

The work is currently underway to remove glaciers and clean the road rapidly at Chitta Katha on Naran Road.

The NHA official also told that the route was also blocked by another big glacier at Guriya Chinch Naran.

The work will be started after the cleaning of this glacier on Guriya Chinch, he added.

The authorities have also warned tourists against visiting Naran.

 

The district administration advised all tourists to avoid travelling to the hilly resorts in Kaghan, Naran and the nearby areas until further notice.

“The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department, Rescue 1122, police, and Kaghan Development Authority are working on a priority basis to ensure the safety of tourists in the area,” the district administration notified.

Naran is Pakistan’s most visited resort, as around 1.5 million people visit it every year.

Naran provides the gateway to Gilgit Hunza valleys in summer via Babusar Pass.

The world’s glaciers melted at dramatic speed last year and saving them is effectively a lost cause, a UN agency said in a report released earlier this week, noting that record levels of greenhouse gases have caused “planetary scale changes on land, in the ocean and in the atmosphere”.
