The government of Pakistan on Monday has renamed Islamabad’s major Kashmir Highway as Srinagar Highway to express solidarity with the people of occupied Kashmir ahead of Youm-e-Istehsal.
As per the details, all the direction boards on the federal capital’s Dhokari Chowk, Faizabad, Zero Point, Golra Chowk and Express Highway have also been changed to replace the name of Kashmir Highway with Srinagar Highway.
According to officials, Srinagar highway will be officially inaugurated on August 5.
The move was taken to observe first anniversary of Indian government scrapping special status of the occupied Kashmir.
Earlier, the foreign minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced to observe ‘Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir’ (Day of Exploitation in occupied Kashmir) on August 5.
The foreign minister, while holding a press conference said that the whole nation should unitedly raise voice against the military siege imposed by India in occupied Kashmir a year ago after the revocation of its special status.
He also said that we need to convey a message to the Kashmiris that they were not alone in their struggle for the right to self-determination.
The minister added that last year Modi government launched demographic apartheid Illegally in Jammu and Kashmir and divided the region into three parts.
FM Qureshi said that the people of Kashmiri are facing immense difficulties, pain and persecution under the continued military siege from India for the last one year.
