Islamabad court dismisses case against retired general Amjad Shoaib

Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib has been discharged from the incitement case on Thursday.

The Islamabad court gave a reserved verdict on the request for review of the physical remand of Lieutenant General Retired and defense analyst Amjad Shoaib and ordered his immediate release.

Additional session judge Tahir Abbas Sipra of District and Sessions Court Islamabad heard the case of incitement against institutions.

Amjad Shoaib’s lawyer Mian Ashfaq gave arguments during the hearing.

The prosecutor opposed the discharge of Amjad Shoaib from the case.

Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra reserved the decision after the arguments of the parties were completed, after some time the court discharged Amjad Shoaib from the case.

Lieutenant General (retired) Amjad Shoaib, who was arrested in the case of inciting rebellion against institutions, was produced in court under tight security.

It should be noted that Islamabad Police arrested Lieutenant General (R) Amjad Shoaib from his residence on February 27.

A photograph of the defence analyst, Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib in police custody, went viral on social media platforms a day earlier.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan felt “embarrassed after seeing the photo and in a tweet, he said, “I feel embarrassed as a Pakistani to witness the depths we have sunk to thanks to this imported regime of a cabal of crooks & their handlers. In desperation to cling to power & muzzle all dissenting voices, they have jailed a respected, patriotic Pakistani on sedition charges
