Pakistan’s performance at the Common Wealth Games took an upswing today as wrestlers performed exceedingly well picking up 1 Gold and 2 bronze medals, taking Pakistan’s total tally to 5 medals. 2 bronze medals came in Weight lifting.
Mohammad Inam, won the Gold medal in 86kg wrestling competition. There were emotional scenes as the 29 year old from Gujranwala clinched the gold for his country by defeating his Nigerian competitor. Earlier, Mohammad Bilal, took the bronze medal by defeating George Ramm of England. He game was won by a margin of 3-1. Earlier, Bilal had defeated Gary Giordmaina of Malta and Charles Fernando Divoshan of Sri Lanka but was unable to overcome India’s Rahul Aware in the Semi-final.
Another wrestler Tayyab Raza, claimed the bronze medal in the 125kg wrestling competition. With 25 overall points (11 classification and 14 technical points), Raza claimed the 3 spot. He won two out of four bouts. The wrestler faced losses against Canadian Korey Jarvis and India’s Summit.
