New Zealand orders nationwide lockdown over one COVID-19 case!

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced a nationwide lockdown on Tuesday after a new case of COVID-19 was discovered in the country’s biggest city of Auckland.

The lockdown will run seven days in Auckland, but three days elsewhere.

Ardern said authorities were assuming the new case was a Delta variant although this has not been confirmed.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the toughest “level 4” rules were required – closing schools, offices, and all businesses with only essential services remaining operational.

“I want to assure New Zealand that we have planned for this eventuality. Going hard and early has worked for us before,” she said.

As being reported, a 58-year-old Devonport man tested positive today after visiting a GP yesterday. He was infectious from August 12.

The man, who is not vaccinated, along with his wife travelled to Coromandel over the weekend. His wife is fully vaccinated.

According to the media report, the now positive tested man and his wife travelled to Coromandel township on Friday and stayed for the weekend.

Around 70-80 people were in a Coromandel bar on each night a positive Covid case visited at the weekend, the bar says.

The pair visited Star and Garter Bar in Coromandel township for an hour on Friday night, from 6.39 pm to 7.40 pm, and again from 7.11 pm to 9 pm on Saturday night, while the All Blacks-Australia test was being telecast on television.
