Norway cautions people against desecrating Holy Quran, hurt religious sentiments

A local police commissioner in Norway cautioned people against desecrating the Holy Quran or making hate speeches after the incident in an anti-Islam rally took place in Kristiansand.

The police commissioner made the remarks saying, “everyone had the right to freedom of expression so long as it did not violate the law”, the news agency has reported adding that, “if the law was violated then the police would interfere”.

Social media on Friday has been in all praises for the bravery of a “Muslim Hero” who interrupted an anti-Islam rally in Norway from burning a copy of the Holy Quran.

The incident took place on November 16  during an anti-Islam rally in Norway after a leader of extreme right-wing, Lars Thorsen, tried to desecrate a copy of the holy book in Kristiansand.

The video circulating on social media is the highlight of the courage of “Muslim Hero” who was seen jumping out of the fence to save the holy book from being desecrated.

Soon after the anti-Islam rally turned violent, local police reached the scene and arrested Thorsen and his attackers.

The man, who is now a social media sensation was being called Ilyas. However, his exact identity could not be ascertained.

Later, Pakistan strongly condemned the attempt by an extreme right-wing group to burn the Holy Quran in a demonstration in Kristiansand, Norway.

“We respect all the religions and expect others to respect ours,” Mohammad Faisal Khan, the spokesperson for the Foreign Office, said in a statement.

Pakistan’s top Islamic Scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani has condemned the recent Norway incident and the Western governments for not taking steps to discourage acts that hurt sentiments of the Muslims.

In a social media post, the religious leader urged Muslim nations to raise this issue with the recent incident desecration of the Holy Quran in Norway.

He also called that all the Muslim governments to raise the issue at the global level and make efforts for his release.
