PM Imran Khan’s nephew regrets taking part in lawyers’ protest

The brutal lawyers’ protest against doctors and the staff of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) claimed the lives of three patients who were undergoing treatment at the hospital has drawn huge public anger.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s nephew, Hassaan Niazi, who had also participated in the protest and was filmed doing the riot, tweeted on Thursday that he was embarrassed upon making the mistake for taking part in the protest against doctors and hospital staff of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) yesterday.

PIC Lahore Attack: FIRs registered against more than 250 lawyers for attacking the hospital

Hassaan, in his tweet, admitted that he had taken part in the outrage against doctors and said that he felt ashamed of himself.

“After watching this clip I feel ashamed of myself. This is murder!!! My support and protest was limited to initiation of legal action against the concerned doctors. I only stand for peaceful protests. It’s a sad day and I condemn my own self for supporting this protest now,” he tweeted.

In another tweet, Hassaan said that he was ‘disturbed’ at what had been done in Lahore.

“Kindly keep politics above the deaths of these victims. Im genuinely disturbed. Look what have we done in Lahore. We all should be on same page on this,” he tweeted.

On Wednesday, a group of 200 to 250 lawyers stormed Punjab Institute of Cardiology, vandalizing property and damaging dozens of vehicles of visitors, the mob also set ablaze a police van.

The video showed the lawyers ransacking wards at the cardiac hospital, beating up staff and smashing equipment.

The lawyers had been protesting over the alleged mistreatment of some of their colleagues by hospital staff last month.

The incident was reportedly triggered by a video clip of some doctors, who had poked fun at lawyers.

The Information Minister of Punjab, Fayaz-ul-Hasan Chohan, who arrived at the hospital to mediate, was also manhandled by the mob of lawyers.
