Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed independent victorious candidates will join the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in the Centre, Punjab and Sindh provinces.
The development comes following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee’s meeting that approved the alliance with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
The PTI core committee had opposed a parliamentary alliance with the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), MQM and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Barrister Gohar and Sahibzara Hamid Raza will decide the terms of the parliamentary alliance in a meeting to be held later in the day.
As per the source, the PTI-backed independent candidates will submit their affidavit today for joining the Sunni Ittehad Council.
Earlier in the day, Omar Ayub Khan, the PTI’s candidate for the slot of prime minister, asserted that PTI would form the government in the Centre and provinces.
He also lamented the crackdown on the party over the last few months.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he said, “Even now, police are picking up our workers and leaders and pressuring them. This was not the job of any caretaker setup. They exceeded their mandate.”
PTI-backed politicians contested the Feb 8 polls as independent candidates, and they must join any party after winning the elections and make alliances to form a government.
