Saudi Arabia set to open its first liquor store in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter

This is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's broader Vision 2030

Saudi Arabia is set to open its first liquor store in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter!

Ever since the Inception of Islam, there has been no alcohol store in this region.

Reprotedly the store’s access will be “strictly restricted” to non-Muslims, aligning with Islamic principles that prohibit alcohol consumption.

News sources familiar with the plans anticipate the store’s opening in the coming weeks.

As reported, Saudi Arabia is set to open its inaugural liquor store in Riyadh, exclusively catering to non-Muslim diplomats, aligned with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s broader Vision 2030 plan aimed at transforming the nation’s economy beyond its reliance on oil.

It is pertinent to mention that the store is situated in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, a hub for embassies and diplomats.

The store will require customers to register through a mobile app, obtain a clearance code from the foreign ministry, and adhere to monthly purchase quotas, as outlined in a document accessed by Reuters.

According to Arab News, the move to introduce the alcohol store coincides with new regulations restricting alcohol imports within diplomatic consignments, a measure aimed at curbing the “improper exchange of special goods and alcoholic beverages received by the embassies of non-Muslim countries inside Saudi Arabia.”
