SBP launches online game for youth to promote financial literacy

Welcome to the world of POMPAK! The State Bank of Pakistan in collaboration with the National Financial Literacy Program and the National Institute of Banking and Finance has launched its online e-learning portal and game for Pakistani youth on Wednesday.

According to the details, the e-learning portal was created for youth to strengthen their money management skills and understanding of financial matters.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the State Bank of Pakistan, this is country’s first online financial literacy course. Lessons are delivered in both English and Urdu through a story-based game format.

The game targets three age-groups – Children (9-12), Adolescents’ (13-17), and Youth (18-29), and can be accessed through a desktop browser, or on mobile phones on the Google Play store and the Apple App store. It’s free, ready to be used.

POMPAK – Learn to Earn’ is a short for Pakistan pomegranates. Users follow two entrepreneurial cousins, Shireen, a city girl, and Ali, who lives on a farm. The two grow a pomegranate tree on Ali’s farm, expand it to an orchard, and eventually set up a juice shop in the city that helps pay for their respective university fees.

The idea of the game is to help the families create a successful business. As the game progresses, users earn points, or pomegranate seeds.
