Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has been nominated as the Caretaker Prime Minister on Saturday following two rounds of talks between the outgoing PM Shehbaz Sharif and the leader of the opposition Raja Riaz.
A summary to this effect has been forwarded to President Arif Alvi, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the PM House, a meeting was held between the prime minister and the opposition leader at the PM House.
The final consultative process concluded amicably and both agreed to appoint Anwarul Haq Kakar as the caretaker prime minister.
The statement said that the prime minister and the opposition leader had signed the advice and sent it to President Arif Alvi.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Raja Riaz said that Anwarul Haq Kakar will be the prime minister.
“We had earlier decided that the caretaker PM should be someone from a smaller province. We reached a consensus that Anwaarul Haq Kakar will be the caretaker PM,” Riaz said.
“I had given this name and the PM has consented to this name … I and the PM have signed on the summary,” he told reporters, adding Kakar would take oath as the head of the interim set-up tomorrow (Sunday).
