Seoul Halloween stampede leaves at least 120 dead, more than 100 injured

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol ordered the deployment of a disaster response team

At least 120 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in Seoul in a stampede incident on Saturday.

The casualties are feared to rise.

A huge crowd flocked into the central district of the South Korean capital to celebrate Halloween, Yonhap news agency reported.

Dozens were reportedly injured when a large crowd pushed forward on a narrow street during the festivities.

The fire authorities were administering CPR to at least 50 people as of 11.30 pm KST on Saturday, the news agency reported initially.

South Korea‘s fire department said 81 people have breathing problems after the stampede.

The number of injured has risen to over 100 in a stampede incident in Seoul’s Itaewon area according to South Korean security authorities.

While South Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol ordered the deployment of a disaster response team, according to reports, 

He also ordered securing enough hospital beds for the injured.

The fire authorities were administering CPR to at least 50 people as of 11.30 pm KST on Saturday, according to the news agency.

Surreal scenes are being shared on social media from Main Street in Itaewon tonight.

Images and video clips arriving on Twitter timeline revealed ambulances and fire engines Lined on the street while people still mingle in Halloween costumes.

This is the first Halloween celebration in public since the COVID lockdown in Seoul.
