The court has adjourned the hearing of the Sara Inam's murder case till November 1.

Shahnawaz Amir, the prime suspect in the Sara Inam murder case, recorded his statement in the District and Sessions Court Islamabad on Wednesday.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana conducted the hearing and granted him a week to present further evidence in his defense.

Alleged co-accused Samina Amir Shah, Shahnawaz’s mother who had a permanent exemption from appearing in court, was also present at the hearing.

Shahnawaz Amir’s statement, which was incomplete during the previous hearing, was recorded.

Sara Inam, a Canadian national, was allegedly murdered by Shahnawaz Amir, her husband, and son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, in Islamabad last year.

Shahnawaz Amir dening the charges alleged that a fabricated case was registered against him and his family as his father criticised the former PDM government and supported PTI.

According to Amir, Sarah may have slipped in the bathroom and died after getting hit on the head, while alleging that an unidentified individual may have killed his wife in his absence.

He also accused the police of not obtaining the CCTV footage of his house deliberately.

The prime suspect in his statement before the court, said that he and Sara Inam married in July of last year without asking her parents, due to which his in-laws were unhappy with their marriage.

Shahnawaz Amir said on the night of the alleged murder, Sara came to the house where Amir’s mother cooked food and the three of them ate together while having a good chat.

He went on to add that Sara woke up and went to the washroom at night. He maintained that he woke up at 7 a.m. in the morning and went to F8 market in Islamabad to get breakfast.

According to him, he found Sara’s lifeless body in the bathtub when he came back home at 9 a.m.

Shahnawaz Amir, the prime suspect said that he got scared seeing Sara’s lifeless body and told his mother Samina Shah, who then called his father journalist Ayaz Amir, and informed him about the incident after which the police arrived at the scene and registered a case against him.

Sara Inam’s father, Inamur Rahim, was also present in court. However, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Rao Abdul Rahim, could not attend due to being out of the country.

The court asked if Shahnawaz Amir intended to provide evidence for his defense, to which the prime suspect requested additional time until the next hearing.

The court granted him time till the next hearing that will be conducted on November 1.
