The UK court on Monday has blocked Julian Assange’s extradition to the US.
A British judge ruled that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange should not be extradited to the United States to face espionage charges for publishing secret documents online.
District Judge Vanessa Baraitser made the ruling at the Old Bailey court in central London in the long-running case, which has become a cause celebre for media freedom.
The judge stated that the extradition would be “oppressive” because of his mental health.
Assange appeared in court on Monday, having arrived from the maximum-security Belmarsh prison in southeast London, where he has been jailed for almost two years.
In the meantime, Assange, 49, is expected to remain in jail in the UK.
As being reported, he has been held at the maximum-security Belmarsh prison in southeast London since April 2019.
