UK nurse has been handed a life sentence for killing seven infants!
The British neonatal nurse was sentenced on Monday for murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to kill six others while they were in her care.
The 33-year-old nurse was on trial at Manchester Crown Court for the past seven months.
Nurse Lucy Letby, murdered five baby boys and two baby girls at the neonatal unit of Countess of Chester Hospital in northern England over 13 months in 2015, injecting the infants with insulin or air or force-feeding milk to them.
This makes the 33-year-old woman the UK’s most prolific child killer.
“Lucy Letby! On each of the seven offences of murder and the seven offences of attempted murder, I sentence you to imprisonment for life. Because the seriousness of your offences is exceptionally high, I direct that the early release provisions do not apply. The order of the court, therefore, is a whole life order on each and every offence and you will spend the rest of your life in prison,” UK Justice James Goss said on Monday while sentencing Letby.
Justice Goss directed to hand over the written order to Letby as she refused to leave her cell and appear before the court while the court gave the verdict, the Daily Mail reported.
During an earlier appearance before the court, the nurse confirmed having cared for hundreds of babies between 2015 and 2016.
She was asked by her lawyer, Ben Myers if she ever wanted to hurt them.
