Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur announced to donate part of her WTA Finals prize money to help war-struck Palestinians!
World No. 7 Ons Jabeur pledged in a tearful speech after beating Markéta Vondroušová 6-4 6-3 in Cancun, Mexico on Wednesday.
“The situation in the world doesn’t make me happy,” Jabeur said, fighting back tears as she spoke.
“It’s very tough seeing children, babies dying every day. It’s heartbreaking, so I have decided to donate part of my prize money to help the Palestinians,” the Tunisian tennis star added.
“I am very happy with the win but I haven’t been very happy lately. The situation in the world doesn’t make me happy… It’s very tough seeing children & babies dying every day. It’s heartbreaking. I have decided to donate part of my prize money to help the Palestinians. I can’t be happy with this win. It is not a political message, it is humanity. I want peace in this world. That’s it,” Jabeur said.
Jabeur, 29, is not the only Arab athlete to have offered financial aid to help Palestinians struck with Isreal’s war.
Last month, the Egyptian Red Crescent, a charity that provides medical services and humanitarian aid, confirmed that Liverpool’s Egyptian forward Mo Salah had made a donation to help its relief efforts in Gaza.
