PCB appoints Tauseef Ahmed as interim chief selector

The post became vacant after Inzamam ul Haq's resignation

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday appointed former cricketer Tauseef Ahmed as the interim chief selector for the national team.

The development comes as Inzamam ul Haq resigned from the post of the chief selector on Oct 30 amid the World Cup 2023 after allegations surfaced that he was a partner in a company that manages players.

Tauseef Ahmed’s first assignment for the selection committee will be the selection of the national squad for the upcoming Australia tour for the three-match Test series after the World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, former cricketer Wajahatullah Wasti has been appointed as the head of the junior selection committee, the cricket governing body announced.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest pertaining to the team selection process.

PCB’s Media and Communications head Aalia Rasheed in a statement said that Inzamam ul Haq had the responsibility to inform the cricket body about any potential conflict of interest.

She also clarified that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan — who is also a director at the UK-based company — is not part of the investigation against Inzamam in the conflict of interest case.

“Initially, we thought that the committee would submit its findings soon but that is no longer the case since the legal, audit, and finance departments are also involved so it will take some time because we come to a decision,” she said.
