One of the richest men in the world both in terms of his wealth and a golden heart, Bill Gates has completely disassociated himself from Microsoft – a company he co-founded 45 years ago. In the latest decision, to pursue philanthropy fulltime, 64-year old Gates has resigned from the board of directors of his own tech company.
“It’s been a tremendous honour and privilege to have worked with and learned from Bill over the years,” Microsoft’s third CEO Satya Nadella said in a release, reported by AFP.
Nadella expressed hope in continuing to benefit from Bill’s technical expertise and passion, who has now taken up a voluntary role of Technical Advisor.

Earlier in 2000 Bill resigned as the CEO of Microsoft and then, later on, stepped down as the chairman board of directors in 2014. Over a decade ago, he had also stopped his involvement in the day-to-day operations of the company that he founded alongside his friend Paul Allen in 1975.
These decisions have come on the back of Gates’s wish to fully devote himself to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a non-profit organization that he founded with his wife 20 years ago.
“Gates is a historic figure in the technology world and his legacy at Microsoft will be felt in Redmond for decades to come,” said Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives said in a note to investors.
