Microsoft will pull the plug on Internet Explorer

Microsoft will pull the plug on Internet Explorer!

Internet Explorer which has been part of the Windows fabric for over a quarter of a century will no longer be available on most versions of Windows 10.

The tech company announced that the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired on June 15, 2022, after serving internet users for over 25 years.

Ever since the introduction of Edge in 2015, Microsoft has been slowly winding down the old browser. It ended support for previous versions in 2016.

Furthermore, Microsoft 365 and other apps will stop supporting IE 11 on August 17th.

“We are announcing that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge,” said Sean Lyndersay, a Microsoft Edge programme manager.

The retirement does not affect “in-market” Windows 10 Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) or Server Internet Explorer 11 desktop apps, Microsoft officials said. It also doesn’t affect the MSHTML (“Trident”) rendering engine.

The Internet Explorer has had a history of being plagued with security bugs and cyber-attacks, however, Microsoft launched numerous security patches to fix them.

IE still fell far behind in terms of functionality and latest features in comparison to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

The announcement has left a number of old internet users sentimental.
